Rochford were given a rugby lesson as impressive London Cornish swept them away with a combination of direct, pacey running, excellent support play and precise finishing power.
The home team, missing some regular players, were unable to lift their game and lacked the spark that has been a feature of this season’ rugby and allowed the West London side to create space and gradually wilted under the continual pressure.
The home side had their moments and did put the visitors under the cosh for a while but could not break down Cornish’s defence.
Rochford were down 28 – 0 at half time which included 3 tries,2 conversions and three penalties to nil and there was no let up in the second half as the opposition piled on 4 more tries 2 conversions plus 2 penalties to rub salt into the wound.
To their credit Rochford played better in this session with tries from flanker Jake Knowles, wing Greg Stubbs and centre Tom Ashton who also converted two of the tries. It brought a degree of respectability to the score but Rochford knew they were second best on the day.
There was no lack of effort or endeavour from the team but it did not have enough cohesion or direction to combat the very workmanlike Cornish outfit.
Rochford can now concentrate their efforts to applying themselves to winning the league in the two remaining games against Harlow next week and Enfield Ignations the following Saturday.
