Rochford Version
Once again there is no match report this week but we won 27 – 22 at Thurrock, Tries by Darren Spencer, Matt Norris, Tom Ashton and two from full back Matt Stewart with a conversion from Ashton made up our scoring. Thurrock scored a penalty try and conversion with five penalties. We were well worth the victory and the scoreline flattered Thurrock according to acting captain Ashton !

Sport can be very cruel and Saturday was no exception, when Rochford snatched victory in the closing moments scoring a try with just 3 minutes to go, after an illegal hand knocked the ball on which the referee missed. The miss proved to be vital as from the loose ball Rochford were able to score in the corner which proved to be the winning try.
The match as expected was a very close fought affair. On a dark dank November day, the visitors, opened the scoring with a well worked try from a line out, but with Thurrock kept in the game by Aaron Burns who added penalties to take the lead but 6-5 but then quickly conceded a try to trail again, but Burns again added another penalty to reduce the deficit to just one point, but just before half time Rochford scored a further try to extend their lead at the break.
Thurrock came out strong in the second half, and Aaron Burns ghosted blind from a ruck to score a try just wide of the posts, he then put Thurrock ahead with the conversion. The game proved to be cat and mouse affair; a further try for Rochford, this time converted. regained the advantage, but a fine drop goal from Ellis Goldsmith and a further Burns penalty pulled Thurrock level again and they were now confident of sneaking victory in the closing stages; but again it was not to be as Rochford went up field and snatched the victory.
It was unfortunate for Aaron Burns who scored 19 points in defeat, but Thurrock can hold their heads high losing to the current league leaders narrowly.
