A workmanlike Eton Manor took a disappointing Rochford to task scoring six tries and generally outplaying the home side.
The set scrum which had been improving week on week was dismantled by the aggressive East London outfit which made Rochford’s attacking platform weak and Manor’s speed and support play was superior and they were able to convert opportunities far better.
If their kicker had been more accurate the score would have been higher as he only converted one of the six tries they scored.
Eton Manor started as they meant to go on pinning Rochford in their twenty metre area from the kick off and then scoring two quick tries which settled them down nicely and at this stage Rochford looked nervous in all that they did.
Gradually the home side responded and began to put some good play together with quick ball through the backs and some storming runs by the likes of James Needham, who was outstanding all game, Michael Stemp, Matt Stewart, Tom Corbet, Darren Spencer and Scott Chivers but nothing came of them and slack play allowed Manor to counter well.
Another two unconverted tries gave Manor the bonus point and a twenty point lead coming up to the break but Rochford responded just before half time with a great breakaway by James Needham who powered through to score. His brother Dan converted the try and gave the boys a boost turning round at 7 -20.
Rochford did increase the tempo of their game early in the second half and after some good approach work centre matt.Stewart broke through to score another try and reduce the arrears to 12 – 20.
The game began to become a fractious affaire with a number of fights and niggles going on all match which seemed to play into Eton Manor’s hands more than Rochford’s.
There were a few good pieces of attacking rugby from the home team but again they were not able to finish off promising moves whereas Manor, when the chances came took them.
The now confident visitors scored another try which was converted and later a penalty kick to keep the points toting up.
A late try by Manor’s speedy wing put the icing on their cake and a successful afternoon’s work completed by them.
From Rochford’s point of view a very disappointing performance as a team although some good quality rugby in parts but which could not be sustained. They will need to go up a few gears when they travel over to Ruislip next week .
