Report by Graham Pratt

After a week’s break and the hard-fought contest against North Walsham the Essex side returned to league action with an emphatic win over poor Luton scoring 17 tries in the process.

The home side just did not have an answer to the power, speed and skill of this Rochford outfit although they had a number of regular first teamers out through injury or unavailability.

This reflects well on the depth of talented players at the club as all those that came in were of very good quality and showed that on the field.

On this, bright sunny afternoon on a wide pitch the Rochford All Blacks were able to run the ball from all angles and used the space well as their first try showed. A fast, flowing backs attack saw young wing Mark Ikhifa slip the ball to impressive supporting flanker Josh Hurley who crashed over to open the scoring.

Next up was wing Will. Ferrier running in for a well taken try and Matthew Stewart added the extra two points. Not to be out done his brother, hooker Adam, who was prominent all game sped through and Stewart added the extra.

The Rochford forwards were in complete control at the set scrum and dominant in the lineouts where Sam Fombo, Sowter and Hudson secured excellent ball for scrum half Ricki Gould to use to get his talented backs into play and Mark Billings, playing in the centre instead of full back, did one of his jinking runs to score and secure the try bonus point.

It was all Rochford and a further 4 tries before half time from Radzevious, Hurley, Dan Sowter and Harry Hudson and a conversion from Stewart brought the score line to 46 - 0 at the break.

The second half was much of the same as Luton, although gallantly fighting on, became overwhelmed as the visitors scored 9 more tries and also missed a few points as well.

The second half scorers were Hudson (2) Shields (2) Meads (2) Johnson, Whatling and Ikhifa with 5 conversions from Stewart.

The home side did go over to score after a late revival and some sloppy defensive work by Rochford but in spite of their guts and determination Luton were outclassed on the day.

Not so much a contest as an exhibition of the strength of this Rochford squad who can be reasonably happy with this result from the points situation, but they will know that they will need to tighten up next week when they take on Eton Manor at home which will be a much harder challenge.
