Aston Bevans-Royston will not be looking at league table as Rochford Hundred visit Brighton

ASTON Bevans-Royston will be paying little attention to the league table when Rochford Hundred visit Brighton tomorrow.

Rochford sit third in the London & SE Premier Division standings with Brighton third from bottom.

But Bevans-Royston feels that will count for very little this weekend.

“I feel Brighton’s league position could be quite misleading,” said Bevans-Royston.

“They’ve drawn against some good teams and had a couple of wins lately so I’m sure they will be looking to kick start their season against us.”

Rochford remain on the hunt for a third successive promotion.

And Bevans-Royston is pleased with how things are starting to shape up.

“The season is shaping up nicely,” said Bevans-Royston.

“We knew we weren’t going to go unbeaten all season but the loss to CS Stags at home was a bit of a shock.

“However, we probably had it coming to us a bit with our previous performances.

“But since that loss the performances have been so much better and we’re looking to further improve this weekend against Brighton, who could potentially cause us some problems.”

Last time out, Rochford beat Sevenoaks 38-3 at Magnolia Road.

And Bevans-Royston was pleased with the performance.

“I felt the boys put in a decent shift against Sevenoaks and it was a very well rounded performance,” said Bevans-Royston.

“However, there are still some aspects to our game that we want to work on, which we have done this week both on and off the training field.

“But our defence in particular is such a strength as even up to the last minute of the game with a bonus point victory secured we still refused to allow them to score a single try against us.”

And, with Guernsey beating Wimbledon last weekend, Rochford are now just two points off the top of the table.
