Rochford started their New Year campaign badly with a resounding defeat at the hands of a good, workmanlike Letchworth outfit.
The visitors took control early on scoring two converted tries after poor Rochford tackling allowed them to open up the home side’s defence.
Rochford did reply with an excellent piece of rugby resulting in full back Marcus Spremulli diving over for a try but that was as good as it got.
The rest of this dour match was a case of keeping Letchworth at bay with many handling errors due to the wet conditions from both sides and when Rochford had the ball they were unable to create any scoring chances.
Letchworth ran in four more tries with their kicker on excellent form with five conversions and three penalty kicks to his credit.
A late rally by the home team in the last quarter resulting in a Sam Barnes try was no compensation for a team that knew this performance was not good enough.
