Not too much to say about this very disappointing performance against a committed and aggressive Ignatians outfit that wanted to win a great deal more than their opponents on the day.
Enfield deserved the victory because they were the better team and were more aggressive in the set pieces and loose and just did not allow Rochford to get any rhythm going.
The boys in black did not play well as a team and appeared too static in attack and lacked penetration as well as turning over too much hard earnt ball.
The big Ignatians pack had the better of the set scrums and Rochford’s lineout did not function as it usually does.
An Adam Ashton penalty kick early in the match gave Rochford the lead for a short time before the home side scored a try. Another converted try in the second half by Ignatians was the only other score but they could have scored more.
There were a few good individual efforts, particularly from Ashton at full back who had a great deal to do collecting high kicks and making last ditch tackles as well as trying to inject some pace into the Rochford back line.
The side as a whole just seemed to lack cohesion and a sense of purpose and could be just a one off bad week but it will have to be addressed and the best place for that is on the training pitch with all players prepared to put in the hard yards.
Enough said and the team will have to regroup next week for a difficult last game before Christmas against old rivals Basildon at home.
