In spite of losing Captain Sam Tape and centre Michael Stemp late in the week Rochford put on a treat for their spectators with a convincing win over Enfield.
It was especially pleasing as Rochford lost to them earlier in the season in a below par performance.
This time round the boys in black were in no mood to fall into that trap again and attacked from the off.
All action flanker Tom Corbet ran through for a try a few minutes into the game and Matt Stewart duly converted and very shortly after stand-off Adam Ashton finished off a good attacking move by crossing the line and Rochford were 12- 0 up in nearly as many minutes.
It was soon evident that the lighter Rochford pack had the measure of the bigger Enfield eight and were able to control the set scrum effectively through better technique.
The line out was not quite so successful and Ignatians had the edge there but did not exploit that aspect of their game as they could have done using the strength in their pack.
The pace and support work of the home side’s backs and forwards caused many problems for the visitors although they tackled well and tried to counterattack Enfield were unable to break down the Rochford defence.
Rochford, for their part, found the spaces and Corbet went over for his second try and before half time powerful flanker Darren Spencer also ran through to earn his side a try bonus point and Stewart converted to take his team to 24 – 0 at the brake.
Having to play into a strong wind in the second half Rochford had to work harder but were still able to keep the pressure on Enfield.
There was plenty of running rugby and centres Stewart and particularly Gavin Tusini made some penetrating breaks. Jon Baker at full back was also impressive as was Matt White on the wing but there was no further scoring until later in the half.
To their credit Ignatians did not give up the fight, although looking tired up front their backs kept trying to run the ball, Rochford had to defend which they did admirably helped by some handling errors by the opposition.
Rochford’s forwards played very well as a unit and the front row of Michael Mark, Bradley Hughes and Ricky Wiseman laid the foundation for the rest of the pack and in particular Jake Knowles, Spencer, Corbet and Murphy enjoyed plenty of ball.
Later in the half young Alex Harbrow Simon Ashton and Dan Bracknell worked to good effect injecting some fresh momentum and from which Rochford launched a number of attacks on the visitors try line.
The pressure told and Brett Smith filling in at flanker broke through to score his 15th try of the season and finish off a successful afternoon for the home side.
The North London outfit were determined to get something from this match and came back at Rochford with a vengeance but they weathered the storm and celebrated a deserved victory.
