Perry Livingstone managed to open the scoring from a scrum close to the Brentwood line coming in off the wing and receiving the ball as he passed behind the scrum to stretch and place the ball down over the try line Rochford 5 – Brentwood 0. Perry was again involved in the second try, a kick over the top from about 10 yards out was dropped forward by the Brentwood defender standing just in front of his line and Andrew Bevan took the opportunity to dive on the ball to score Rochford 10 – Brentwood 0. A bright start for Rochford and looking for a good win, they were thwarted by the rain which started almost immediately, both teams looked to attack but the wet ball made things difficult and neither team managed to change the score before halftime.
The second half started as the first had finished, and degenerated into a seemingly endless sequence of scrums, both teams looked to close down the ball quickly handling errors just meant another scrum. At one point a Rochford back called to the forwards in the scrum commenting “come on you lot, it’s boring out here !”. Rochford had a few second half chances, being held up twice and when they did occasionally get a chance, again seeming to panic at the final pass. The sole score of the second half, was therefore a penalty taken by Josh Lipscombe, the game ending a soggy Rochford 13 – Brentwood 0.
Given the early dominance by Rochford the rain, and battle of the forwards in the second half, seemed to change the game and aid Brentwood in keeping the defeat to a respectable three scores.
