Westcombe Park vs. Rochford U15s, 9 January 2011

Rochford started well and had a good early chance, but were robbed of the ball in a maul allowing Westcombe Park to attack, recycling the ball well after tackles to open the scoring Westcombe 5 – Rochford 0. Having had a couple of chances stopped by good tackles, Perry went on a surging run down the wing, charging through a number of tackles to score near the posts Westcombe 7 – Rockford 5. The sides looked closely matched, Rochford scored next to take the lead, Josh Lipscombe kicking a penalty, and Rochford had a really good chance to increase the lead, when a good kick forward saw a couple of Westcombe players retrieve the ball, but were quickly pounced on by two Rochford players, Westcombe were however quicker to support their exposed players and succeeded via a few mauls and penalties to score again Westcombe 12. Rochford’s next chance came when Josh Lipscombe kicked low towards touch but was unable to chase his own kick down, Westcombe again attacked and when Rochford won possession charged down the kick to score half time came with the score Westcombe 17 – Rochford 8.

With the teams only 7 points apart, the numbers of people watching increased ready for the second half. Westcombe Park started the half the better, Rochford seeming to be trying too hard and thereby give away lots of penalties, this together with several lack lustre tackles, saw the game slowly drift away from them. Two penalties, and a further three trys, with no reply from Rochford, saw the game end Westcombe Park 40 – Rochford 8, the final score not really reflecting Rochford’s endeavours or the closeness of the teams in the first half.
