Thurrock vs. Rochford U15s, 10th October 2010
The game started with a good 10 minutes or so of good rugby, with both teams getting chances to attack and defend, until a long kick downfield by Thurrock was picked up cleanly by Kyle, who then managed to run from deep in his own half slipping tackles to
Rochford’s lead however did not last for long, Thurrock successfully kicked a penalty to touch, won the line-out and proceeded to run through and score beneath the posts, and scoring the conversion saw them take the lead Thurrock 7 – Rochford 5. Rochford looking to regain the lead, kept Thurrock hemmed in their own half, until a clever kick over the top by Josh Lipscombe saw a Thurrock defender stretching to prevent the ball going into touch near to the Thurrock try line. The defender was unsuccessful, managing just a touch which handed the throw in to Rochford, which was collected by Cameron Pitt who score from close in Thurrock 7 – Rochford 10.
Subsequent good play by Rochford, saw Musa Yusuff run strongly forward, but was stopped inches short of the Thurrock line, the ruck was won by Thurrock, but poorly cleared to touch. From the resulting lineout the ball was worked to Musa who this time managed to charge the full distance to score under the posts, with Josh converting to leave the half time score Thurrock 7 – Rochford 17.
The second half saw Rochford up the attacking and really begin to dominate the game, Thurrock’s stout defending held strong for long periods, but could not prevent further Rochford scores. Harry Parsons put a foot in touch before going over the try line, but Rochford won the following line-out and Sean Prior managed to score, Thurrock 7 – Rochford 22. Thurrock succeeded many times in stopping Rochford attacks inches from their line, but having been called back when certain to score for a previous knock on, James Spicer scored a final try, with the conversion by Josh being the last kick of the match, ending Thurrock 7 – Rochford 29.
