The U13s face Colchester as winter closes in.

Another re-arranged game today as Colchester kindly agreeing to make the journey to Magnolia Road on a cold and wet October morning, after Barking pulled out earlier in the week.

Rochford again had a strong starting line-up and bench and soon took an early lead courtesy of a strong run from Luke Pindani. The visitors were soon back on terms and then took the lead, after puncturing a hole in Rochford’s defensive line; though Rochford soon bounced back with a well-worked try between Luca and Jack, before Rochford regained the lead through a determined run from Christian.

Colchester struck back again, but then Rochford’s passing game clicked into gear and enabled the home side to take a 6-3 into the interval, courtesy of a great piece of opportunism from Alex who picked up from the ruck and weaved over the line. This was then followed by a great switch play between Luca and Kieran and then a great run from Jack. A quick mention to Noah who had another good game at Hooker in only his second game in that position, Kai who moved the ball well at Fly-Half and Harrison who made several great tackles on the wing.

All the substitutes were brought on at half time, combined with a few positional changes, but this didn’t upset the good rugby being played by Rochford who continued to control the game, winning most of the scrums courtesy of a strong front row of George, Luke C and Connor. Ethan had several good runs down the left wing, but couldn’t quite break through the Colchester back line. Kieran was unlucky with a kick over the top, which he then fly-hacked over the line, but couldn’t get the decisive touchdown. Brendan came on to fill the big shoes of Luca, slotting in at number 8, and kept the scrum strong. Barnaby made some great tackles and powerful runs and also performed a convincing feign to kick, before attacking the Colchester front row.

Billy made his debut in a Rochford shirt today, making several weaving runs and just missing out on a try. Well done! Rochford added further tries through Luke P, Max, Christian and Kieran, before Colchester were able to add a consolation try. A good game played in good spirit, excellently refereed by James, who also presided over the Thurrock game. Man of the Match voted by Colchester was Luke PIndani.

Next up Romford away, after some of the boys perform ball boy duties for the 1st XV next Saturday.
