The Southend coach approached with an offer of a quick match against his U8s which certainly looked fair considering his team were about 2 feet taller than our lads! So without further ado coach Fin replied ‘bring it on’.
Rochford started well and were soon passing the ball along the line to create opportunities down the right hand side. 1st strike to Rochford! Milo screamed down the centre from a pop pass from Ethan, dodging through their defensive line and over for a try. Southend couldn’t handle this kind of pressure from the U7’s and responded swiftly with 3 tries.
Several players were seen to make a number of good tackles, which seemed to surprise Southend. With good teamwork and ball handling Rochford scored again with Dalton sprinting through the near corner to touchdown our second try. Southend quickly came back with another 2 tries, increasing the lead to 2-5. The second half saw Ben take off on a surging run, but unfortunately was brought down just before the Southend try line. Rochford kept on probing Southend’s defensive line and eventually Toby succeeded in placing the ball over the line for Rochfords 3rd and final try. Southend continued with a further 2 tries to close the game.
Southend’s coach on leaving complemented our lads on how well they had played in such a tough game. A good performance from every player, our boys played as a team as always - Well Done!
