Rochford U7 vs. Wanstead, 13 March 2011

Gary decided for the last game to put his men up against Wanstead’s under 8’s! Not a bad idea really. This would test our teams strength and stamina. The first half saw our team giving as good as they got and Oliver bagging 4 tries! One of the tries Speedy set up superbly and another layed on by an energetic run from Liam. Speedy also got a cool try to end the half. In between all that Wanstead did get 3 tries. Rochford 5 Wanstead 3.

2nd half. Dylan came on for George. Wanstead’s under 8’s got themselves back in the game and eventually levelled the score 5-5. At that point in the game they could of scored more if it wasn’t for some excellent tagging from Luke (Stubbs) and Jake who seem to be getting more skilful every week! Then speedy got one back with another noble solo effort 6-5. But Wanstead replied and then the ref announced it was to be the last play of the match. At this point in the game the match could of gone either way and considering our team were playing Wanstead’s under 8’s and matching them in every way if not better than them. Either way at that moment was a good result for gary and his mighty team! Rochford had the ball but they lost possession and Wanstead scored a lucky try and the game ended Rochford 6 Wanstead 7.

Overall Rochford’s under 7’s are still showing sheer skill, strength and determination in their games and are a team to watch out for! The whole day went well as we entertained Wanstead at our ground although a bit of an anti-climax after last week when Gary and his team were Essex cup finalists! Special thanks to our players (who are now all integral players) this week for sharing Rochford’s team spirit with Wanstead. All of our men at some point were on loan to Wanstead as they couldn’t field a full Squad! Thanks as always to all who came to support our team and to Gary, Peter and Russell for steering our young men in the right direction. Also many thanks to Berni Rignall and her crew who supplied the lovely food on the day, giving Wanstead more than the usual burger or hotdog! Something they wont forget!
