Basildon vs. Rochford Under 7s, 23 October 2011
On yet another unseasonably sunny October morning we arrived at Basildon, as yet undefeated. The spectators were unsure of what to expect as although most of the Basildon players stood head and shoulders above the Rochford team, they were apparently less
It was a Rochford start, with Toby passing to Adam, who ran straight for the try line and put Rochford ahead. It was then the turn of Basildon, who were denied by a tag from Toby and then their player being forced out by a tight Rochford defence. It was a Rochford Ball again with Harry passing to Oliver.P, then to Adam and finally to Toby who scored Rochford’s second.
Basildon then made a dash for the try line but a diving player and a foot out of touch saw their try disallowed. Next saw Rochford lose the ball to a forward pass, only for Basildon to be forced off the pitch after a tag from Oliver.P. In turn, an improving Basildon defence did the same, only for them to lose the ball to a forward pass. After great runs and passes between Adam, Jamie, Harry and Oliver.T, the ball was passed to George who made it 3-0 to Rochford.
Basildon started the second half and were again forced out by Rochford’s defence. This then saw passes between Adam, Lewis, Joe, Oliver.P, Harry and Toby before Joe broke away and scored Rochford’s fourth. After more great defence, the ball was in Rochford’s hands with George passing to Harry who after being tagged, passed to Joe who again scored.
With Basildon with the ball, Joe managed to tag two successive players, with the third being forced out by Oliver.P. After Rochford losing the ball, Basildon broke free and Rochford were unable to stop them scoring their first try of the game.
With only a couple of minutes remaining, Joe passed to Toby, who passed back to Joe who was then forced out by Basildon defence. In the dying seconds, Toby and Oliver.P tagged Basildon’s players and after a forward pass, full time was called.
