With South Woodham having the ball, a tight Rochford defence lead to tagging by Harry, Jamie and Oliver.P and eventually their player was forced off the pitch. Passes between Oliver.F, Harry, Oliver.P and Lewis followed, but a dropped ball lead to South Woodham again running towards the Rochford half. Joe, Oliver.F and Sam tagged their players and with Joe picking up a dropped ball and making a speedy run for the try line, it was 2-0 to Rochford.
South Woodham again made a good run but their player was tagged by Harry and, after a pass, their player was forced off the pitch. After Lewis passing to Sam, South Woodham again obstructed the pass. Oliver.F started this time, passing to Jamie who made a great run and, after being tagged, more passing ensued to Harry, Joe, Lewis and Oliver.P. Rochford lost the ball and Jamie, Joe and Sam tagged more of their players with the Rochford defence again forcing their player off the pitch. Rochford were then themselves run out, but the favour was quickly returned by Harry and Oliver.P who closed down their player. Oliver.P passed to Joe, who after being tagged tried to pass the ball, but after being obstructed again, the ball was lost, but quickly regained again after tagging from Lewis and another dropped ball. Joe picked up the ball and after another great run, scored the third try for Rochford.
With only a couple of minutes left to play, the Rochford defence (and Stewart!) were determined not to concede any tries. After tagging from Harry, Lewis and Jamie, South Woodham made a forward pass and in the final seconds of the game, passes between Sam, Oliver.F and Joe lead to another great run by Joe who scored Rochford’s fourth try in the last play of the game.
Although both games at times were a bit scrappy and stop/start, there were moments of brilliance from Rochford and the sheer determination, commitment and dedication will hopefully be hard to surpass this season.
