Rochford U7s vs. Southend 'A', 30th October 2011
The first match of the day was to be against Southend’s ‘A’ team. As Southend started with the ball, it was clear they were a well drilled side, already standing in line, ready for passes.
They were immediately met with a good Rochford defence, with tags from Oliver.P, Lewis, Joe, George, Harry and Toby, but made it through to score the first try of the game. After passes between Toby, Lewis and Joe, Rochford dropped the ball and it was again Southend’s turn to test the defence. More great tagging from Joe, Lewis and Adam and a strong defence led to Southend’s player being forced off the pitch and Rochford winning the ball.
After a pass from Oliver.P, Harry made a run for the try line and, after being tagged, passed to Joe, then on to Toby and back to Joe. Rochford lost the ball and there was more tagging from Harry, Joe, Lewis and Adam before they were again forced from the pitch, winning Rochford the ball. Adam passed to George who made a mighty run and scored the first for Rochford.
It was a Southend ball, and after tags from Oliver.P and Joe, their player made it to the try line, but with no tags, so no try was given. Oliver.T passed to Adam, then onto Harry and Joe before the ball was lost to Southend. More great tagging from Joe, George, Jamie and Adam led to a knock forward from Southend, gaining Rochford the ball. Fantastic passes and runs from Jamie, Joe, Oliver.P, Harry, Jamie, George and Oliver.T saw the ball passed to Joe, who scored Rochford’s second.
Southend’s next run was cut short by more tags from Adam and George and, after a dropped ball, Rochford’s George passed to Joe, then onto Harry and back to Joe, before the ball was lost. After a tag from George, Southend made a forward pass, gaining Rochford the ball. However, after passes from George and Oliver.P, the ball was back to Southend, who were run out of the pitch by a good Rochford defence. Rochford again lost the ball, and despite tags from Joe, George and Harry, Southend made it through to even the score in the last play of the game.
Southend’s ‘A’ team gave us a run for our money, but great defending and good runs from all the team meant that Rochford held their own and left the pitch with the score standing at 2 all.
