In this match Rochford had more of the possession, and a great run by Matthew down the line past Romford players saw Rochford take the lead. With confidence growing the ball flowed more. William S made some good tackles along the line, and soon after Louis ran through in midfield to get our second try. With a successful conversion from Tom, Rochford were 12-0 up at the interval.
The second half was a fairly even affair, with play often being centred in midfield, where we tended to bunch up a few times. Kyle had a few runs at the opposition defence, and it was pleasing to see Owen show a lot of tenacity to scramble through the opposition to score our third try, this being a just reward for other close efforts earlier in the match.
With Michael duly converting, Rochford ran out deserved 19 -5 winners, with Romford having scored in the last few seconds.
THEY WERE EXCEEDINGLY GOOD ……
We are, of course, talking about those ‘Rock Cakes’ made by Linzie Banks!! With an offer promising that buying 2 rock cakes would not leave you even a penny out of pocket (ie ‘’ you’ll lose a pound but you’ll gain a pound!!’’), The ‘’rock cakes went like hot cakes’’.
Seriously though, a big thanks to Linzie for her efforts and a big thank you to those who bought some, as ALL of the proceeds will be going to support the Minis Rugby Tour.
SUMMARY
In a very friendly and sporting atmosphere, both Romford and Rochford supporters alike were treated to two close matches, where both teams showed a lot of spirit and played some good rugby, and individuals could be very proud of their efforts.
