Match report by Banksy Senior The rules read that “the team with the most points win the cup” with awards for 2nd and third place only. No mention of number of wins, losses or draws and with Rochford’s past record of missing out on a trophy, spec

Some hasty calculations seemed to suggest that if we won our last game we should come second overall – and if we could win by eighteen tries we’d win the cup (never trust an accountant to show common sense when interpreting instructions) !. Some serious and sustained debate amongst the parents only led to more confusion so the game kicked off with all having a difference of opinion on the subject – and Mrs B not talking to Mr B. Oh well, that’s what us hardened match reporters have to endure in the line of duty.

Rochford, for once, started well and Oli B ran through for try number one. Some strong forward play saw the ball passed back along the line to Will D who went over for his first try of the tournament. For obvious reasons this was something he was pleased about and both he and the team did a bit of a dance to celebrate. The ref was having none of this joviality and called Oli over to tell his side to curb their antics.
“You vill not ave fun” – hopefully that’s not what we’ve got to look out for on tour or I’ll be escaping back home quicker than you can say “grenade” !!. 2 – 0 then at half time.

Second half and pressure by Rochford saw Little Lew go over for a well worked try. Will D added a second to his tally (with, for the record, no undue celebrations) and Adam B continued his poor run of luck when his try was deemed to be held up. Not that that mattered unduly, except to Adam, as the final whistle meant we had won the match and secured second place in the tournament. Result.

Although the U12’s were the last to leave the pitch it was a very happy end to a great day - and with a medal each and a trophy for the cabinet, a well deserved reward for the year to date’s efforts. Well done boys.
