Rochford U12 vs. Thames, 13 March 2011

Good to host a home match and with the weather holding up it was a pleasing prospect for some good rugby, and boys you did not disappoint. A strong team was put forward against Thames, who as we know from past encounters prove worthy opposition. It was a slightly messy start with some handling errors but you communicated well to each other and dominated the scrums, passed the ball down your line, eventually allowing Harry Mimms to place the ball over the line for the first try, and conversion from Tom Child.

The backs then showed good hands with excellent passing from Matt Fitz and Tom Child. Thames also went on some good foraging runs but were stopped in there tracks by Derek and Michael, who both put in some accurate tackles. Again a strong scrum turned the ball over and Michael scored with Tom converting. Offside was given, a quick penalty was taken by Thames but Matt Dobson ran the pass down, he then ran well with the ball and passed unselfishly off to give Tom Child a try and conversion. So at Half time it was 21-0.

Thames came out determined in the second half, but with Michael putting in a very nifty side step and passing to Tom, another try went over and was successfully converted. Thames came back at us with a well deserved try. Harry then ran on to a penalty pass and powered over for a final try from Rochford and conversion from Tom.
