Upminster B vs Rochford U12, Upminster Festival, 27 March 2011

We had eyed up the list of clubs due to be at the festival and reckoned we were in with a good chance of a decent result. There wasn’t a team there that we felt we couldn’t take on and beat. It was going to one of those days when the gods were smiling on us and everything fell into place!

We had played an Upminster side a few weeks ago that we thought were their ‘B’ team, only to find out afterwards that it was a mixed A&B team. Today we really played the ‘B’ team. The match started with a frenzied flurry of play. A few wayward passes meant that we didn’t quite get going straight away. However, we soon hit our stride and scored in quick succession. Hang on a minute! What happened to the slow start that we are used to? Not today. The team started to work like a well oiled machine and the ball was being passed down the line and being recycled well. Derek went over for our first try. Freddie was getting stuck in and stopping Upminster in their tracks.

The second try came from a great line run by Jake who then off loaded the ball to Michael who ran the ball in with his usual pace. Immediate pressure from the restart saw Harry Mimms blast through the Upminster line to score for our third. Another Upminster restart saw the ball drop into Matt Dobson’s grasp who then ran the length of the pitch to score. A final score from Tom Child, neatly sidestepping the Upminster defence, brought us a maximum score and an early end to the match. Great start!
