First Half
We weren’t quite sure how we were going to get on today, being as we were playing one of the best teams in Essex but it didn’t go so bad.
Well, we started off rather quickly with Derek claiming the ball and scoring the 1st try within the first few minutes of the game, followed shortly by Harry Mims, running through from the scrum and getting the ball to Stefan, who then scored our 2nd try. This was a great start, as we thought we didn’t have it in us to beat Upminster.
Sadly though, this was short lived and Upminster turned over the ball and there it was, they scored their 1st try. There was a knock on by Upminster which lead to another scrum and our Rochford boys pushed over and claimed the ball back.
Second Half
As Upminster started with the ball, Michael put in a great tackle, stopping game play in the corner. Then Harry Oldacre put in another good tackle and another straight after by Matt Fitz-Patrick. The first five minutes of the game and it was all Upminster but Rochford were defending really well and Michael just kept putting in those tackles. Tom Child got a good tackle in and Rochford turned over the ball.
There was a slight knock on (we liked these today) and then another scrum which Upminster got the better of us, we seemed to run out of defenders and Upminster then scored their 2nd try which evened the score. We then had a Rochford line out, the first one of the match with an unfortunate knock on which lead to an Upminster scrum. A good clearing Kick resulted in a knock on into an attacking Upminster scrum. Rochford had the ball, it was our scrum, which Upminster knocked on.
Finishing with a score of 10 – 10 not such a bad result for our first game of the day, well done Rochford, we drew with Upminster.
