We have also played Thames twice recently and again were confident we could beat them. They have a really classy fly half so we knew we had to close him down to stop the Thames attack. This we did to great effect. The scrum was working very well and we were often winning the ball against the head. The score was opened by Tom Child after throwing a brilliant dummy pass and then stepping through the defence to score.
Next Harry Oldacre grappled his way straight through their defence to score our second. It was then over to the backs with Michael and Harry Gibson using their pace to score a try each. A lineout in the Thames ‘22’ saw Harry Mimms get the ball and power through for try number 5. A good run from Stef who off loaded to Harry lead to us nearly getting a sixth try but we ran out of time.
That was the pool stage over and we finished on top to go into the Cup final full of confidence. Our opponents for the final were Southend who we hadn’t played since the opening festival of the season were we were beaten following a very lack lustre performance. Today we were going to put that right.
