Wanstead vs. Rochford U9s, 16 January 2011

Our squad consisted of Ben, Blakey, Dominic, Fraser, Haidyn, Henry, Jamie, Lawrence, Louis, Matthew and Ricardo. The boys went through some warm-up moves prior to kick-off whilst we waited for all the home team to arrive. Dominic showed outstanding sportsmanship and volunteered to play for Wanstead to get the games underway. The game was really close and very exciting. Our rucking practise in training really showed as we rucked superbly, it was a real joy to watch, text book stuff. Our tackling was also good in this half with an outstanding tackle from Ben, in his first game, which drove his opposite number back at least one metre.

However after 5 minutes into the game Wanstead scored and were one – nil up at half time. Dominic re-joined us for the remaining half and next match after he had a good half for Wanstead. However Wanstead scored straight from the second half kick-off with a weaving run which caught us off-guard. We did not drop our heads and knuckled down to some gritty rugby to be rewarded with a try from Blakey in the corner. Wanstead came straight back at us and after some dogged defence they scored their third try. The last play of this match saw Wanstead score the final try after their player cut in from the touchline. The boys played really well and the score line didn’t really reflect the game.
