The team was mixed between under 7s and under 8s this time and what with this and the long break since before Christmas, Rochford took a little while to get going. In the early stages, Rochford allowed the home side to continually push forward because they were allowing them too much space between plays. Fortunately Basildon also seemed to be suffering a school holiday hangover as although they managed to develop a small lead with the speed and strength of their taller players, they were not able to fully capitalise as Fraser and Henry held back their lead with some great tries. First half honours however went to Basildon.
After a team talk from Steve Rochford had a much better start. Rochford pushed forward more meaning Basildon were granted less space which led to more tags by Rochford. This, combined with better passing meant Rochford started to get the better of Basildon. The improved team work paid dividends as great tries from Fraser, Henry and Toby meant Rochford pulled level and managed to edge it 9-8. So overall a slow start for both teams but eventually a good game of end to end action. Well done Rochford for pulling it back just it time.
