In the first match, we were always in control. Excellent tagging forced turnovers on the 7 tag rule, and we used the ball well when we got it. Good support work from the team, finding space, passing well, enabled some really good well worked tries. However, appreciation of the offside rule was not quite there, and that often gave Ilford further opportunities, through resetting the tag count, and enabled them to stay in touch in terms of tries. The final score was 6-4 to Rochford, with tries from Josh(2), Thomas(2), Chris H and James.
In the second game, Rochford carried on in almost the same vein. More excellent tagging, including a couple from Harry, good picking up of loose balls, and more good passing, including an excellent one from Tash to put Thomas into space for a try, enabled us to score 5 good tries in all. Offside was less of a problem, though still not quite there, and meant we restricted Ilford to only 2 tries, with the final score 5-2.
Tries from Josh (2), Thomas(2) and James.
Overall performance across both games was very pleasing, but we’ll need to work on improved understanding of offside in training, plus appreciating where the touchline is!
Squad was Josh B, Jack, Tash, Thomas, Spencer, James, Harry, Chris H, Fraser.
