Rochford set sights on going up for a third time

ASTON Bevans-Royston says Rochford Hundred are targeting a third successive promotion this season.

Rochford, who have gone 50 games unbeaten, are lining up in the London & SE Premier Division this season after back-to-back promotions.

But Bevans-Royston insists Hundred are hungry to make it three in a row.

“Personally, I think if we can keep our squad fit then we will be fighting for promotion,” said the prop-forward.

“It’s clear that everyone at the club is not content to stay in this league so if we aren’t fighting at the end of the season for that top spot then we would have missed our target.

“We’ve got a special group of players here who are definitely capable of going up.”

Rochford have adjusted well to life at the higher level, winning both of their matches so far.

And Bevans-Royston has been encouraged by the strong start.

“I think 10 points from a possible 10 is obviously a great start and the teams we’ve played, Tring and Hertford, are always up in the top half of the table too,” said Bevans-Royston.

“To go away to Tring and dominate one of the best packs in the league year after year was a real statement of our intent.

“But, despite these results, I think the most promising thing to take from the games is that we know we aren’t performing anywhere near our best so I’m really excited to see us when we’re fully firing on all cylinders.”

Rochford will now be looking to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Bedford Athletic, who have yet to pick up a point.

But Bevans-Royston is unsure what to expect.

“You never really know which Bedford team will turn up,” said Bevans-Royston.

“They had a tough season last year but in their last 10 games they really turned it around. We definitely need to respect them but if we go there and play to our capabilities with this group of players, we win.”
