Your Monthly Round-Up from Across the Club

Rochford Hundred Round-Up – September 2025

Welcome to the first edition of the Rochford Hundred Round-Up! Each month, we’ll bring you news and updates from across the club. Whether it’s match results, player achievements, or upcoming events, this is your one-stop place to stay in the loop with everything at Rochford Hundred RFC.

Minis

This Sunday morning, the Minis section will be travelling to SWF to play their first competitive match of the season.

- Matt Valentine, Minis Chairman

Youth & Girls

The Youth team have enjoyed a great pre-season, with many new faces and plenty of games over the summer. Our coaches and managers have begun the new CPD programme, The Rochford Way, which allows our team to celebrate success, develop, and support each other throughout the year.

Our girls’ section continues to grow, thanks to the excellent work of Anneliese and her team. The youth teams have now begun their seasons, and our Academy is building momentum ahead of their first National Cup game away to Colchester on 5th October.

Keep an eye on our social media to stay updated on all the teams’ progress, and if you’re free, please come along and support our future stars!

- Calum Brackett, Youth Chairman

Hawks

The Hawks are proud to be building an inclusive space at Rochford Hundred Rugby Club, welcoming players from the LGBT+ community and beyond. We believe rugby is for everyone, no matter your background, experience, or ability, and we’re committed to creating a supportive environment where players can enjoy the sport, build confidence, and make lasting friendships.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or completely new to the game, we’d love for you to be part of our journey. Training takes place every Tuesday at 7:15pm at Rochford Hundred Rugby Club – so lace up your boots, bring your energy, and join the Hawks as we make rugby more inclusive, one try at a time!

- Stuart Kimber, Captain

Harts

The Harts were pushed hard in pre-season across July and August by Coach Craig Hallums and Head of S&C Luke Brewster.
Led on the field by captain (and backward kicker) Jack Doherty, two pre-season fixtures against Harlow and Thurrock helped them towards an opening league win in their league derby against Runwell Wyverns on 13th September, with a solid 24–5 victory.
Unfortunately, this game saw two props, Zack Coelho and Larry Higgs, leave the field with injuries – get well soon, lads!

The boys enjoyed a start-of-season social after the Runwell game, with fines and forfeits for misdemeanours handed out by Aaron Cocks and Josh Brown.

The following weekend saw the first round of the Essex 2nd XV Cup, with a home game against Harlow. The Harts put on a dominant display with excellent attacking rugby, coming out 52–7 winners. The next 2nd XV Cup game is scheduled for 25th October, opposition TBC.

With players moving up from the Academy and new additions to the squad, there have already been standout individual performances. Coupled with their desire to play fast, attacking rugby, the boys are looking forward to some exciting fixtures in October.

Lastly, Harts’ loudmouth and fashionista Liam Ellis is leaving us to go travelling and find himself (hopefully he doesn’t)! Safe travels, mate – see you soon.

- Nick Dolman, Harts Manager

Vixens

In recent weeks, the Vixens have been focusing on tackle technique, run-throughs, and set pieces. During pre-season, we worked hard on fitness and further bonded as a team. We have welcomed several new players over the last couple of weeks, who are already proving to be a great asset.

We are ready and prepared for the season ahead and welcome anyone of any experience to come along and join the Vixen family.

- MJ Ryan, Vixens Co-Captain

1XV

Andy Titterrell, the current England U20s head coach, recently visited to take a session with the hookers and forwards. The former England and British & Irish Lion ran a throwing session for all the hookers and worked with the forwards coach Alex Lee on the first team’s lineout.

- Kevin Harman, Director of Rugby

Chairman’s Message

The season is well and truly underway, and I am absolutely relishing it! It was a busy summer, maintaining the pitches, registering players, and recruiting to bolster the 1XV squad in preparation for another campaign in Regional 2 Anglia.

Last season saw us rally towards the end of the campaign, with standout performances against tough opposition including Brentwood, Wanstead, and an excellent performance away to Harlow.

We welcomed several returning players to the club and also said Kia Ora to Toby Kennett from New Zealand, who comes from an excellent rugby background with his dad and uncle both representing the All Blacks. We look forward to Toby providing some Kiwi sparkle, forming a new partnership with fellow New Zealander, Westyn Cobb.

I’m delighted to see eight of last year’s Academy graduates making 1XV appearances, which bodes well for our mission to grow talent into the adult game.

I need a big favour from you all this season: try to get to as many games as you can, whether that’s the 1XV or our brilliant Vixens, Hawks, Youth, and Minis. Please come together and offer support – the teams need your Rochford Roar to add that extra edge!

- Steve Maguire, Club Chairman
