SOME BAD HABITS APPEARING IN A COMFORTABLE WIN

It was another afternoon of gloomy and wet conditions at Magnolia Road and a second half display that nearly matched the weather.

A 15 try spree against poor opposition who could only field a bare 15 players that went down to 13 and with uncontested scrums in the later part of the game could not gloss over the fact that Rochford should have scored many more points.

A bright start from the team, playing in their red strip, saw 10 tries put away in the first half and 8 of those converted by the returning Cameron Greenhall. Rochford totally dominated the scrums and lineout all afternoon as well as the loose, but even early on basic errors were being made with much ball being spilt.

A lead of 66 points at the break should have put the boys on a 100 point plus score line in the second half but it just did not happen.

Old Priorians were a game side and never gave up the fight but were outclassed although they rallied later in the second session to put pressure on the Rochford defence, who held firm and counter attacked from turn over ball.

The poor light and rain did not help but that cannot be an excuse for slip shod play and a failure to score the points that were begging to be taken.

The referee blew the final whistle 4 minutes early and by then everybody concerned seemed thankful for proceedings to finish.

Priorians fought well and it was a long way to come for such a beating, but they can take comfort in that if the home side had really concentrated better it would have been a far higher score.

Another satisfactory victory but the team knew, by their standards, that the second half performance was below par and that Colchester are still only 8 points behind in spite of our massive points difference. The squad cannot afford to relax and fall into bad habits and need to finish the lead up to Christmas with all guns blazing.
