It had to happen sometime and unfortunately Lowestoft & Yarmouth were the ones on the receiving end this afternoon.
A try scoring bonanza led by acting captain Tom Ashton’s 37 points including 3 tries and 11 conversions saw Rochford take poor Lowerstoft apart with a total of 14 tries to 1.
To their credit the Suffolk side never gave up the chase and early on competed well to make the home side work to get the upper hand.
Wing Tom Pickering started the ball rolling with an early try before Lowestoft hit back with a penalty kick.
No. eight Scott Horsburgh ,who grows in stature with every game, then went over for the first of his two tries which Ashton converted but shortly after a loose Rochford pass was intercepted by the opposition who ran in for a converted try to reduce the score line to 12 – 10.
That was as good as it got for them as Rochford opened up from all aspects of play especially at the breakdown where ball was regularly turned over by forwards and backs.
Although Lowestoft put up a good fight in the set scrum where Rochford had to work hard for possession plenty of ball from the lineout and loose allowed scrum half Dan Bracknell so many options to feed his backs to show off their skill, fitness and excellent lines of running and the floodgates opened.
Four more tries, by Tom Corbet (2), Ashton and Dan Needham which were all converted took the half time score to 40 – 10 and a bonus point obtained.
The second session was just a feast of try scoring with 8 more coming from Horsburgh, Louis Warner (2), Corbet, Reece Levy, Marcus Spremulli and Ashton(2)
An excellent performance from the team which should help boost their confidence before taking on local rivals Basildon next week in the final league game before Christmas and which will be a much sterner test for them.
