Maldon Vets send in the young guns but the old boys put on the style.

Well again we have the luxury of "fifteen" forwards but not to worry Keating stepped in at scrum half and Paul from hooker to centre saved the day.
Well the game kicked off in the normal manor with lots of huff and puff, Tubby broke through to score the opener with a fine run under the sticks, which he converted. Soon the Rams started to put their pack to work, in between some silly cheap penalties. Our forward power gave the backs the chance to run the ball, scoring some great tries under the sticks. Tubby had his boots on and was kicking everything. The opposition kept coming back capitalising on our penalties scoring four tries of there own. Sharky was the pick of the pack with some great work off the back of the forwards. Young Frodo and Rich George played well running the ball at every opportunity with the new centres.
Quote of the day was made by Keats, and I quote "I would play Prop no problem".
Well at half time it was time to change the pack ! Off with the first eight and on with a new eight. Again Keats said and I quote "I have never had a complete pack change at half time this is great". Again we dominated the game, although it was a lot tighter, we managed to hold our own again. Johnny Archer lasted about ten minutes before his Gout..... sorry his thumb started to play up, so back on went the Raging Bull Nic B. But then came the forward who thought he was a back !?! Gary took the ball on our own 22 and kicked it high into the air; in fact so high he hit the stars ...."The Bear" to be more precise ! I hope he now understands backs kick the ball and forwards run with it ! Not long after Gary decided he needed a change, (not sure if this was due to his kicking effort/) so back on went Des. Tubby then made the break of the game he made a run, 22 to 22, looking all the time for support or even a tackle, but not so lucky until he just collapsed with his lungs burning ! After ten minutes he was still in a bad way so the change came and Kev went in at Ten. He was so pleased, he didn't stop talking about it for at least an hour. A big thanks to Maldon who made us run until the end. Again thanks to all for playing there part.
Man of the Match goes to Tubby for some awesome kicking and bulldozing runs through the middle !
Match Report by Pete VDB !
"I edited out the bit about pleading for Russ to come back on for the last 5 mins, as I wasn't 'tired' I was showing a bit of 'back-row' camaraderie ! No neeeerrrr !" - Editor x

HERE'S MALDON RFC MATCH REPORT FOR THIS GAME
On a bleak afternoon Maldon 3rd XV played the next game in their sequence of occasional fixtures, taking place generally once per month. The last fixture was played in balmy October. Rochford on a bitterly cold November day was a different prospect. Maldon 3rd XV was a mix of youthful exuberance and some older players. Maldon began very promisingly by keeping the ball close to the forwards and maintaining possession, which allowed scrum half Rob Hockton to score a try. Rochford responded immediately using the same tactic which gave their huge fly half the space to squeeze past 3 would-be tacklers to level the score. Not long after prop Simon Cheek almost got away with a quick 22m drop-out but forgot the "drop" aspect of this attempt. The rest of the first half saw the lead see-saw, with Maldon scoring tries through Crispin Binder, Craig Gorman and Gary Smith and conversions through Ben Hockton and Craig Martin. But Rochford kept on scoring more frequently than Maldon, and at half time the home team were in the lead, 37-24.
The second half saw Maldon much improved in tackling, which kept the score down to a more reasonable level. The Rochford team were very experienced and used all their experience and numerous substitutes to good advantage. Although Rochford managed another 3 tries Maldon scored two tries through Rob Hockton and Craig Martin, an indication that Maldon were much more competitive and never gave up. Captain Dougie Fresh gave an inspirational team talk at the end of the game, following his inspirational performance on the pitch. Maldon 3rd XV were beaten but not disgraced and hope for warmer conditions for their next fixture.
Squad: Mark Palmer, Sam Bennett, Simon Cheek, Peter Binder, Karl King, Simon Peacock, Crispin Binder, Dougie Fresh (capt.), John Reed, Rob Hockton, Ben Hockton, John Chadwick, Craig Martin, Phil Lees, Gary Smith, Craig Gorman, Mark Hockton Snr. David Taylor.
