Well we all met up on a cold and very chilly day ready to take on the might of Old Brent’s. The wind was blowing bitterly cold I stood with the three other substitutes icicle hanging from my ****.
The game kicked off and old Brents realised early on we had a not so young Trevor B on the wing and targeted him with a young panther, so chip over the top and the chase was on. The forwards were asleep for the first ten minutes allowing the young guns to dominate all over the park. We took injury after injury. First came one of our young guns Rich with a broken and dislocated little pinkie, so on went the injured already streak of lightning in the shape of Pete V. First thing he did was to show what was missing some aggression upsetting the young centre that wanted to kick him while being lifted from the ground.
Now the team started to show what Rochford Rams were about with some great pressure. Half time came and VDB was of himself struggling with injury. On went another bolt of lightning in the shape of Dave Mac. Then it was the turn of Mike O to injure himself, another reshuffle and VDB back on to stand on the wing and be a pain in the young guns neck. Kenny came into the backs with Des going to the second row. The pack really started to work hard ball up jumper and take it through the middle by this time Sharky had also been injured and had to leave the field, so we now had Gary T and John Archer on the wings !!!
A big hand to the remaining backs as they ran all over the pitch tackling. Rochford by now were very tired and the young opposition started to take the **** thinking they could run in tries at will. Well this was an error in judgement as Rochford started to tackle harder, ruck harder until 10 yards out they won a scrum. This was to be a lesson given on how to scrum, with the RAMs pushing back the opposition giving them no option but to drop the scrum on their line. Like a Gazelle Clarkey picks up the ball at the base and dives over the top of them all to ground for a well deserved try.
Lad’s thanks for sticking at it and all working hard.
M-O-M goes to Clarkey, closely followed Kenny (if only Russ did not sore the try).
The bear is going to "I'm off to the Darts Tubby" for the worst excuse this year (Kev will present this week).
