Rams v Basildon III

The game almost didn't get played due to an absence of players from the Basildon camp. However because we have an abundance of highly talented Forwards who can play anywhere (?),and didn't mind playing for the opposition the game commenced.
The first half was give and take from both sides. An early try from Rochford with a missed conversion followed by a try from Basildon soon after. The rest of the first half was back and fourth Rochford in front with Basildon catching up. There was however some very good rugby being played despite the hot weather. The end of the first half saw Basildon with their noses in front and leading by a conversion to go in 17-15.
In the second half, Rochford replacements were brought on and the guys who played for the opposition took their place in their own line-up. Rochford started getting their act together now and with some excellent linking and open play soon put the Basildon team on the back foot. Chris Morgan,Ollie Bedford and Richard George all played well as did the entire pack. Kev Hughes(fly-half imposter) replaced Mike O'connor who left the field with knee injury at number 10. Kev played well in this position until hamstring problems caused him to leave the field also. Mike came back on but only until a NEW find by the name of Simon Watkins came on and dazzled us with his ball handling, side-steps and kicking skills. Simon kicked a successful conversion (and will he he ever let us forget it ?).
The Rochford players now went into over drive and soon were in an abyss of a lead, though Basildon did not give up and gallantly fought to the end but with a depleted side. Even with new players borrowed from Rochford the task was never going to be easy.
At the end of play Rochford were the victors with a score of 49 to 22.

Captains Man of the Match goes to Ollie BEDFORD for his try, his great try saving tackles and his never ending running. Ollie had one blemish on his game, but we won't mention that here? WELL DONE OLLIE !
Well done to the rest of the team for a good win. Thanks to the guys who turned out for Basildon. Thanks to Basildon for the game and never giving in. We may see them again this week (Upminster Vets pending ?).
