Rams continue their winning streak !

Well the Rams were well supported this week with a number of Colts playing an active role in this superb victory.
The Rams took the lead with a well taken try, Captain Mike O running a mesmerizing full 70 meters from behind his own posts, jinking and spinning, breaking numerous tackles, bulldozing the entire Thurrock 1st team before brilliantly off loading to Kev Anderson, who made an inspired spiralling cross-field kick back towards Mike O. Mike O leapt like a spawning salmon to collect the ball with one hand to open the scoring ...... Oh, sorry Mike and Kev were not there ! They were away playing for Braintree with Gary T !!!
Ah back to reality, it took some time for the forwards to settle into the game, making hard work of some good attacking positions. Don Faulkner put in a fantastic display in the first half, making our normal fly-half (Tubby) wonder if he would ever be relieved of his duties running the line. Russ Clarke got the Rams on the score-board with a good run off the back of a five meter scrum. A short while later Lee Wiseman's quick tap, when a penalty was awarded about 35 meters out, run under the sticks to add the second try. Chris Morgan taking on the kicking duties in the absence of Mike O. and converting both tries. Half time score 14 - 0.
Well half time came and we made a couple of changes, making it clear we would not be changing any more until the game was secure. This did not take long as the backs were fed quick ball and came alive turning on the style, running in some fantastic tries with Tubby taking over the kicking duties. Chris M added to his season tally with one try and Jack Hall with a 'jug-buying' brace ! Final Score 47 - 0.
A big thanks to Thurrock who although depleted, kept heads held high and played to the end, scoring two good tries. Also thanks to all that turned up and played for us (sorry forwards, it's back to normal next week as we have only three backs available).
Things of note this week; Kenton came on as a sub, his first ball he knocked on and then tried to even the game up by giving away a penalty on the 22, in front of the posts. He obviously thought they may miss, so he asked the referee some questions, resulting in the ref moving the said penalty right under the posts (beware Paul H he may cost you dearly)!
Don Faulkner came to play for Rochford with "Westcliff" shorts ! His defence was he could not find any others that were clean? This week you can take "The Bear" to the laundrette Don !
Man of the match has to go to young Mr Hall who had a blinder in the centre alongside Chris M, although he was ran close by Matt Wilby in the front row.
We must also remember that the absent captain will be collecting the bear in two weeks for his moment of red mist 'retaliation' last week.
PS. I missed off the last write up what a wonderful try Pete V scored breaking through from twenty yards to score next to the posts, this was the turning point in the game and definitely in the running for try of the season I would say.
