The Under 13’s kicked off their Essex campaign with a resounding win at home to Thurrock. On a bright September morning, the boys took the lead straight from the kick-off, courtesy of a fine catch by Barnaby from Kieran’s kick-off, who then made good ground, before the ball ended up with Luke Pindani who managed to bulldoze through the opposition in his own imitable style!
Rochford were dominant in the scrum and tackling in general limiting Thurrock to few opportunities to approach the Rochford line, but did manage to pierce the line, just before half time, however, a well- deserved try from Captain Luca, a try from Kieran, and typically rumbustious tries from Christian and Luke Pindani saw Rochford holding a 5-1 (25-5) lead at half time.
Several changes were made for the second period, but the pressure was maintained and Rochford were able to add a further 6 tries with no reply, courtesy of Luke Coldwell, Luke Pindani, Christian and Kieran (3). Special mention to the Thurrock lad with the multi-coloured scrum cap, who make last ditch tackles on Jack in the first half and Freddy in the second, preventing certain tries.
Final Score 11-1 ( 55-5)
Well done to all the boys, strong team performance all round, though Luca was picked by Thurrock as the man of the match.
