Ealing kicked off with a perfect kick that just went 10 yards and stopped dead in the mud, this seemed to take the RaMS by surprise as the team were guilty of ball watching, Ealing collected the ball and proceeded to run across the pitch and then up the touchline to score without a tackle being made.
Suitable words of encouragement having been made by the coaches seemed to spur the RaMS into life from their restart. They began to battle and were rewarded with an equalising try following good link up play between the forwards and backs. Ealing proved to be very determined, tackling hard and making the RaMS work hard in the demanding conditions, but as the game went on the RaMS began to dominate the scrums winning a few against the head, and making excellent use of their backs who were making some penetrating runs. By half time the RaMS had edged into a narrow but deserved lead.
In the second half the RaMS continued to increase their lead, noticeably improving as the game went on and the team gelled. The final score of 41 – 5 does not truly reflect how well Ealing played and how well the RaMS had to play to overcome them.
In the conditions it was an excellent game and both sides were a credit to the hard work put in by their coaches. Well done.
