After observing a 2 minute silence on this Remembrance Sunday, both teams started with energy and determination. An early push from Rochford saw Olly T drive over the line for their first score. Windy conditions contributed to a difficult kick and the score remained 0-5.
Some excellent work in the scrum and the ruck led to a well deserved answering try for Billericay which they converted to lead 7-5.
Both teams worked hard with some excellent tackles from both sides putting promising runs to an end. The deadlock was finally broken by a lovely chip from Toby B that was chased down by Jack H for a second Rochford score.
Commitment from both sides was undiminished as the second half began. The front rows on both teams are to be commended for their effort and and both Sam G and JJ were superb in the ruck and made some immense tackles. Adam was solid at the back of the defence and the team's persistence was rewarded as Ben C managed to break through for a try in the corner.
An answering try from Billericay not long afterwards showed that the home team wasn't finished. However, fatigue and the damp conditions started to show on both sides as handling errors crept in. Consistent pressure from the visitors, with the team all pulling their weight and working together, was repaid with a great cheeky pick and run from Ben F as he ducked over the line for Rochford's fourth.
The tempo continued to the end, with both sides looking like they could deliver another try if the defence provided an opportunity.
However, despite the efforts of both sides, the score finished 12-20. Fantastic effort from both teams - a great match to watch.
