A Tough Test

Another great game today. Rochford started strongly, getting off the mark thanks to a great Jack H interception and Ben C conversion. Quick hands were the hallmark of the first half with some great work moving the ball. A strong defense from Southend denied the home team from scoring, managing to hold up the ball and counter ruck from their own 22, before a couple more Rochford tries followed before half time.

An unfortunate injury just before half time meant that play moved to another pitch for the remainder of the match. The Southend scrum was very strong and there was some excellent work in the ruck from both sides with turnovers for both teams. A great individual try from Southend was followed by another one...this time taking a leaf out of Jack’s book and intercepting a pass to race across the line for a try. The score line narrowed with additional tries for both teams and some great play from all.

There was some fierce tackling from both sides and despite real defensive heart shown on the Southend line, Rochford managed to get over for another try or two.

A very physical game from both sides, and the cold, slippery conditions led to some handling errors from both teams towards the end of the match. However, every player showed great heart, spirit and respect for each other. Thanks to all the lads on the pitch for making it a really good game to watch. Well done!
