This was possibly because they were not quite as robust as Westcliff. However, Southend were clearly dominant in the scrum. Luckily, their scrum half was quite small and Jake Spivey managed to put him under a lot of pressure, disrupting their play.
Rochford opened up the score after Harry Gibson passed to Jake Spivey then out to Tom Child and on to Michael Shields who got over the line. Stefan King was tackling well and Callum Lazell continued with the improvements he has been making this season. The second try came after Jake Spivey got the ball to Matt Dobson out to Tom Child and then on to Michael shields who got his second try. This passing play was so much better and what has been lacking this season.
However, the second half saw Southend regroup and put us under pressure. We became a little disorganised again but Ewan Hardie managed to get us moving forward, following an awarded penalty, taken quickly catching Southend off guard. Stefan King got the final score of the match, crashing through the Southend defence to create a one man try. Going it alone in this case was the right decision!
Much better play Rochford.
