Jake Spivey scored two, Michael Shields scored one, Matt Fitz-Patrick scored one and Tom Finch, one of our forwards, got his first try of the season. This was following a scrappy line out which saw Tom Finch power his way through the heart of Westcliffs’ defence. It’s nice to see one of the unsung hero’s in the scrum get a score
Although it was an easy win for Rochford which made for some eagerness to hang on to ball, there were some highlights that are worth a mention.
Alex Savill was good under the high ball and showed quick thinking in his passing play. Mathijs Van Waard, who was on the wing, almost got over the try line but was just bundled into touch. This was again following quick thinking after picking up loose ball. A lesson to some of our other players, as standing back and watching loose ball on the floor has also been a problem this season.
Finally the last play of the day almost saw Ewan Hardie get a try down the wing just before he almost had his head removed following a high, but non malicious Westcliff tackle.
So finally we had something to cheer about. Not the most accomplished of play but better. When Rochford passed the ball, the scores came so much easier. This also gave us, on the try line, something
to cheer about.
