Match Report by Ray and Adam Huckett

ILFORD 7 - 26 ROCHFORD
Rochford started well, with good ball passing putting Ilford under early pressure, and from a penalty 15 yards from the Ilford line it was Lewis who bundled past several opponents to score the opening try, which he converted also. There were strong attacking runs and tackling from William D, quick lineout/scrum play from Louis, and good central movement involving Harrison and Connor. Also, the scrum looked solid and disciplined, and in close play Karl B, Joe, and Adam B fought very well for possession, with Oliver making good tackles at the back. Owen was involved in a lot of the play, making good tackles, and started a move involving seven Rochford players which nearly ended with a try. On the right side of the field Tom played soundly, and good link ups and good tackling from Ross and Lewis caused Ilford headaches. After Michael had deputised for the injured Connor, Rochford soon afterwards grabbed a second try coming after Ross took a solid tackle, but kept possession to pass off to Oliver, who from a deep position ran over convincingly to score. Ross converted. However, on the stroke of half time Ilford grabbed a try and conversion, giving Rochford a 14 - 7 lead at the interval.
The second half saw several Rochford player changes, and started with Ilford putting Rochford under early pressure. However, a move started by Karl B, led to fine running between Jack and Lewis, and ending with Michael determinedly powering through the Ilford defence for a well deserved try. (The Plough 1 - Tank 0..).
Rochford defended well deep in their own half, and good runs and tackles were made by Harrison and Ross alike. Ilford were caused problems by deep central running from Jack and Lewis, as well as busy play from Matthew L who attacked where possible. Ross and Ben C attacked from the right, but met solid Ilford defence there. Rochford needed to scramble quickly for possession a lot in midfield, where Billy and Matthew P were both seen to get involved. William S was kept busy at the back as Ilford made several attempts to score down the left side. As the end grew close, Ross showed battling skills to shrug off a few tackles to make the try line, after a move involving Lewis and Matthew L. With Jack converting, Rochford secured a deserved 26 to 7 victory in a well contested, and well refereed (courtesy of Ilford coach) encounter.
Areas where Rochford can be more effective include getting off those final passes to make good moves end decisively with a try. Also, Rochford need to be quicker off the mark to challenge and put pressure on opponents when they receive the ball. And finally, more support to players in possession, or where a ruck opportunity presents itself. That having been said, Rochford again passed the ball well, created good movement and many chances, and played well as a team which led to many individuals giving really fine performances.
Well Done!!
