With Thurrock just piping SWF in another close encounter we knew we would be in for a hard game against Thurrock, which proved to be the case. With the windy conditions the ball was very difficult to handle for both teams so we saw the ball bobbling about and plenty of knock-ons, but we used the conditions to our advantage .
With some great tackling followed by excellent rucking and mauling by the forwards lead by Sarah Jane, we secured quick ball and from Matt N at scrum half it went down the line quickly and resulted in Louis on the wing running in the corner for a well worked first try, converted by James H.
In the second half and against a strong wind we kept up the good foundations laid and due to good forward work from Sarah-Jane, Ben P, Liam, Matt P and Sam we were again able to let the backs loose which resulted in both James H and James B finishing of great team efforts with tries, both being converted. I have to say the favourite try, as it was a planned move, was from a penalty just inside Thurrock’s half. Matt N tapped and passed ball to James H who threw a good miss pass straight to Ryan who with some strong running created and carved through a gaping hole in their defence and ran over for a try (might have been watching the six nations).
Well done boys (and SJ) for putting in to a game what we do on a cold Saturday morning, it just goes to prove how easy rugby can and should be played. I bet you all went home with a big smile on your faces with 2 big WINs
Also thank you to all parents for the support.
Tries: Louis, James H, Ryan, James B
Conversions: James H (2), Louis
