Match Report by John Spivey

Medway and Thurrock played the first match with what were obviously their strongest teams. Thurrock had a second team available and rather than both teams stand out in the cold, a training match was agreed upon to warm the boys up.
By the end of the first half Rochford had scored so many tries, Thurrock decided to cancel the second half. This was partly due to the rain, but more likely due to a pointless exercise in Thurrock carrying on.
After the Thurrock and Medway match, Thurrock called it a day and went home. This left an inexperienced Medway second team for Rochford to play. After standing around for so long our lighter players struggled to keep warm which reduced our open play options. It made no difference to the result as Rochford scored at will, with little resistance from Medway. By the end of the first half with 6 tries scored, the Rochford players had their tails up and were now eager to play. It took some encouragement from the Medway coaches to get their boys out for the second half. Even though Rochford waited some minutes on the pitch their spirits weren’t dampened and the onslaught continued. By the end of the game, Matthew Fitz-Patrick had scored 3, Michael and Jake scored 2 a piece and Stefan had scored 1. Our newest players scored their first tries for Rochford, Rhys bagged 2 and Matthew Dobson scored 1 to end the match.
As the Medway boys did not offer up much in the way of resistance, there is little to say about the general play other than well done! All the boys deserve praise for playing in such inclement conditions.
