Despite their physical presence, Basildon were easy to rattle and with Rochford finally realising that they don’t have to wait for the opposition to come to them, they were able to drive them back without needing to tackle. Unfortunately, Rochford forgot that you have to tackle opponents and drive them back when near the try line and twice Basildon players were swung round by their shirt only to fall over the line and touch down. A 2-0 half-time deficit all of our own making.
The boys ran onto the pitch for the second half with their ears still ringing with the message that they could still win the match and set out to prove they could. George from Burnham (now playing in black) went on one of his now trademark runs to pull Rochford back into the game. Constant pressure from Rochford for the rest of the half went unrewarded and at the final whistle the score was 2-1 to Basildon.
It was disappointing as Rochford looked like they deserved two wins but should take great heart from the way they played in both matches. Well done lads.
