We had high hopes for this match after restricting Wanstead in our away tie and coming away with a draw and a win. However, Wanstead proved to be a much more formidable proposition this time.
Again there were positives in that Rochford were playing a more expansive game, bringing the wingers into play. The line outs were again dominated by the height of Tyler and Ben. However, too often the team tried to break one tackle too many, leaving them isolated from the rest of the team and in the middle of a group of Wanstead players.
In addition, too many of the team were being drawn into mauls leaving gaps in the defensive line and this again proved to be our undoing. Wanstead looked more organised and were faster and stronger in the ruck often providing them with turn over ball. The Wanstead scrum was also superior driving Rochford back to win against the head on a number of occasions.
Two tries from Wanstead gave them a deserved win.
