Rochford U10 vs Thames, 13 March 2011

Thames arrived with a mixed team including an Under 11, and a couple of Under 9s. Rochford yet again seem to have seen off the lean times and had 11 players for this match.

From the start Thames proved they would be formidable opposition with their Under 11 player considerably taller than most of the Rochford team. The team began to put together a series of attacks with good passing down the line and supporting the player with the ball. However, it was Thames who were to score first with more Rochford players being drawn into the mauls to cope with the strength of the Thames side they left gaps in defence and it was through one of these that the break came. Rochford attacked again and just before half time James Berry scored our only try of the day, breaking through several tackles and forcing the ball over the line to touch down at arms length.

Tyler Scott and Ben Cannon began to dominate the line outs winning many against the throw and providing good distribution. There were some very good runs with Ben and James Mowle using their strength to drive up field, and Callum Hishon, Brandon Smith, Jack Chandler and Amber Popham using their speed and agility but all fell short of the line. Thames continued to attack and only some excellent last ditch defending from Corey Lazell and Christopher Martin stopped them scoring more than the one try.
