It was nice warm sunny day for our first game of the season. We were at Wanstead to play a double header against them and Thurrock.

Virtually the whole squad was there, which is a great plus the Steve & Doug when it comes to selecting the team. We also had great support from the parents. First off Wanstead played Thurrock which ended up seeing Thurrock eventually winning a good close game.

Then we was up..Frazer was our Captain and he stood proud in the centre of the pitch, the team stood as one behind him as one, ready for battle. We were playing Thurrock first. Frazer won the toss and we were off. Both teams started well with lots of good passages of play, which the really encouraging to all the watching parents. The first line out was won well by Thurrock, although we could do with more challenging in the line from our forwards. They broke away but some good defending stopped them short of the line. After a good scrum, which Hayden, Ben and Laurence look really strong in we started to move the ball out but a dropped catch (Remember Target Hands!!) let Thurrock pounce on the loose ball and pushed across the line to score the first try.

From the restart there was a great passage of play were both teams played some excellent rugby, which was dully acknowledged by the ref. The team were putting in some great tackles but with a few handling errors let Thurrock in for another couple of tries. The first half came to an end and although we were losing we had played some of our best rugby.

The second half started with us winning an early penalty. Louis took it quick but was called back by the ref as he crossed the line. We were really piling the pressure on Thurrock now and with some good passing Grace broke through and was inches away from grounding the ball for a try. The team did everything well in this half. Henry was putting in some crunching tackles; Ricky and Frazer were going on some great runs while Ben was smashing through the Thurrock team. As the game drew to an end Thurrock found a gap in our defence ad squeezed through for one more try. Despite losing the game the team can be really proud of the way they played.
