Rochford U10s vs. Burnham, 30th October 2011

We kicked of the now that we were fully awake we started to pass and run like we know we can. After some good passing from the team Henry found a space and flew over for try line for the opening try. Burnham came on the attack but a good rip from Josh presented the ball to Frazer who ran well until he was brought down, some good rucking saw Haidyn and Lol secure the ball for Ben to pick up and push over the line to score a try.

Play continued and we won a scrum against the head on our own line which with some quick thinking from Louis saw him run and relieve the pressure from our try line. Our rucking was working well setting up some good positions for the team which we then wasted by giving away to many penalties. From a scrum a good break saw the ball passed off to Haidyn who pumped his legs and made for the gap in the Burnham defence and went over for a try.

As play went on we again gave away another penalty from which Burnham profited and score a try. From the restart we gave the ball away and as with most of the game missed tackles let in Burnham for another try. Some good driving from the restart saw Declan and Josh pushing Burnham back. The ball came out to Louis who passed off to Frazer who whizzed over the line. Burnham put a good passage of play together that ended in a try for them despite some good efforts in stopping them from Dom, Grace & Ricky. But as the half drew to a close Henry darted through a gap in the defence and bolted down the pitch for a wonderful try.

The second half started with Charlie really getting at the Burnham team but despite this they found a way through to run in a try. As the match restarted Haidyn found himself with space that he made the most of and sprinted over the line for a try. Burnham came back at us but this time we held firm in defence and resulted in Louis making a quick break with the ball, which was passed off the Frazer who got the ball out to Henry who ran in for a try. Burnham cam straight back at us and scored.

From the restart Charlie found Lol with a good pass and he made some good ground until he was stopped by the Burnham defence who quickly turn defence into attack and again with some missed tackles from the team let them run in a try. The game was really end to end at this point and with Burnham giving away a penalty Louis saw the chance for a quick break that he took and darted across the line for a try. From the restart Burnham ran straight through us and as they scored a try the game ended.

Summary

The good points from the day were that a virtually full turn out from the squad and a first victory over Burnham. We again showed that we can play the passing game but this was not seen enough.

I think the key word from today’s games has to TACKERLING!! And we need to keep our positions better and not getting sucked into plays that we don’t need to be involved in. Remember it is a team game.
