Westcliff were creating plenty of chances, but so were Rochford, with determined runs from Corey Lazell, Chris Hastings and Chris Martin making lots of ground, but just getting tackled before the line. Debut boy Callum Hishon was also making some good darting runs forward.
Westcliff scored just before half time, after a series of good passes down their attacking line left a fairly simple run through unopposed to their winger.
Into the second half and it was still anybody's game, but Westcliff just seemed to have the edge with their better rucking, whereas Rochford were strangely reluctant to enter any rucks at all. From just such a ruck near the Rochford line, Westcliff were able to dart through and get their second try with just a couple of minutes to go.
Rochford then seemed determined to get a try back, and spent the rest of the game in Westcliff's half, but some determined tackling, plus straying over the touchline a couple of times, meant that Rochford could not break through.
